Los Fueros de Valencia establecieron mecanismos legales para la salvaguarda del patrimonio de aquellos menores de edad que quedaban huérfanos. Para ello, el texto legal reglamentó las figuras de tutores y curadores, estableciendo claramente sus atribuciones y sus obligaciones. Por otro lado, reguló el mecanismo para garantizar que todo menor pudiese contar con la protección y ayuda de un tutor que velase por su patrimonio. Partiendo del texto de los Fueros y ejemplificándolo con documentación de carácter municipal, mediante este artículo pretendemos realizar una aproximación a dicha normativa legal y a su práctica diaria.
